the plans that for the scapiste scheme we propone te

construet in the bight of thang Kom Bay a large reclamation

of about 48 mares, from which will projest in a southerly

direction a series of 6 jøttien. For the first instalment

sur proposal is to construst Jetties Nos. 1 and 2 with a

portion of the reclamation to the extent of 7 acres, all as

shown by Red Colour on the plans.

42. The special requirements of the trade as at

present conduoted in regard to the large proportion of

cargo which is taken away by junks and barges, has already

been referred to in this report and is dealt with in these

proposals by providing in the case of each jetty (with one

exception to be referred to later) deep water berthage for

large vessels on the one side and barthage for junks or

vassals of small draught an the other. By this arrangement

barge which has been placed in sheds either for sorting Or

warehousing can be loaded with equal convenience inte ship

or junk as the oans may be. There will also be no diffi,

culty if necessary in transferring directly frus ship te

junk ar junk te ship.

43. It will be seen that, to meet these conditions,

wo propose to provide on the western side of Jetty No. 1

a junk basin having berthage of about 850 feet in length.

This and the other junk basins shown will, where necessary,

be dredged to give a minimm depth of 15 feet below

extreme low water spring tides, which from the information

obtained appears to us to be suply sufficient. Portions

of the basin, depending upon the natural depth of the

water, will be of greater depth.
